Show me your”GREEN”… PART 3

As springtime approaches, the color green is one that rings in the approaching season with a celebration of fresh, new foliage and anticipated rejuvenation. When decorating, the color green can also breathe this same renewing life into the interior spaces of a home. It is quite common for me to purposely choose “something green” for the majority of the rooms in my South Carolina interior design projects. There is just something soothing about a plant or small tree “cohabitating” with the residents of a home. Almost everyone has learned at some point in their lives that plants are not only aesthetically appealing, but they can also clean and purify the air with their emission of oxygen and absorption of CO2. In addition, flora may also provide a focal point for a room, depending upon placement. When selecting a plant, it is important to remember that it should match the style and scale of your space. Otherwise, just like any other design element, it can easily seem as if the plant is dominating an area. Photo from Flickr And here is a “Kimplistic” Tip that happens to be one of my biggest sticklers when it comes to living in a home with plant life…. KEEP IT ALIVE! Prune it frequently, and quickly discard any browning leaves. Toepperwein’s “preserved life” arrangements Just as a healthy plant can breathe life into a room, a dead or dying plant can do just the opposite. Not only is a browning plant unsightly, it is also distracting from the beauty of the rest of the space. If you happen to have a “brown thumb”,__ I recommend what I refer to as ”life preserved”. Unlike other types of non-living greenery and arrangements, life preserved is much more authentic and adds a great deal of interest to any space. Instead of using manufactured materials to create faux greenery, companies such as Toepperwein’s Of Texas use a special process to preserve once-living plants.
