Interior Design: My Balancing Act with Lamps

Lamps are some of my very favorite elements in almost every space I design! Their charming appeal creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that overhead lighting simply cannot duplicate. Although chandeliers and lamps both provide necessary light and beautify spaces, they also each serve different purposes (in terms of interior design, that is!). Lamps often do double-duty as decorative accessories in a room, adding color and interest. In addition, lamps may also contribute height variations that establish appealing visual flow. As a professional interior designer, one of my typical focuses is creating a feeling of balance in the homes of my clients. Although I am well-known for my unique and creative ways of achieving this goal, I also find it pleasing to add traditional elements of symmetry in many of the homes I decorate. One aesthetically-appealing way to do so is by incorporating a pair of matching lamps on a chest or sideboard. The two lamps – linked in the middle by accessories of the proper scale and height, of course! – can create a charming and lovely display. Take a look at the photo examples (below) from the homes of a few of my Knotting Hill Interior interior design clients.
