Creative Headboard Alternatives

Last week, I shared photos of some of the custom bed canopies that I have created for clients. Those pictures made me pause to consider some of the other fabulous headboard alternatives that I have seen and/or crafted myself through the years. Here is a picture compilation of some of my favorite unique and creative ideas. FRAMED PHOTOS AND ART

Photo from Country Living. I love this painting over the bed! Adds a special detailing to the space that seems to create the mood. From Elle Decor. These black-and-white framed photos are a great way to personalize a bedroom. From Better Homes and Gardens. GATES AND FENCES This headboard was actually a section of an antique fence. From Architectural Digest. What a unique way to recycle a salvaged gate! From Better Homes & Gardens. This “gate” is actually a metal screen moonlighting as a beautiful headboard! From Better Homes & Gardens. FRAMED WALLPAPER Inexpensive headboard alternative that is completely customizable. From Architectural Digest. From Elle Decor Magazine. STENCILS and PAINTING DIRECTLY ON WALL

Love the subtle paint color difference! From Architectural Digest. Bold teal accented with a bright yellow stencil! FABULOUS! From Elle Decor Magazine. Cute stencil from Better Homes and Gardens! They even painted some flowers on the wall! DOORS AND WINDOWS These three panels are actually painted closet doors . Very creative and dramatic idea. From Better Homes & Gardens. This headboard is actually a painted, 6-panel door turned sideways. From Better Homes & Gardens. Three hollow doors covered with matte black paint. From Better Homes & Gardens. Two single window frames with fabric mounted from the backs to customize the look. From Better Homes & Gardens. MIRRORS This gorgeous mirror makes a bold statement in this elegant bedroom. From Country Living Magazine. This antique mirror serves as a beautiful headboard. From Elle Decor Magazine. OTHER FABULOUS ALTERNATIVES Framed vintage hankies! From Better Homes & Gardens. A lovely salvaged mantle as a headboard alternative. From Better Homes & Gardens. Plates can be used in combination with a traditional mantle or as a stand-alone headboard option. Unknown source. As you can see, virtually anything can be used as a headboard, so let your imagination run free! Have fun with it, and… NOW, GO HAVE AN “It’s So Fabulous!” DAY!
