An Idea for Displaying Your Collections in Your Decor

Using collections in our decor is part of what makes our home, feel like home. Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to display our most beloved collections. Finding crafty solutions to these design problems is part of the fun and one of the things I love to do the most! Here’s example of one of these challenges and the solution we finally came up with. You might just remember it! Many moons ago, I wrote a post about displaying a collection of horse ribbons. My 13 year old daughter rides and shows hunter jumper horses almost every weekend and each trip produces anywhere from 8 -15 ribbons. For a while I felt that our entire house was becoming overrun with ribbons. Frustrated, I put the ribbons in bags and basically hid them under the bed for 2 years!!!!! (Bad Mama!!) My amazing daughter doing her thing. Look at her go!! Haunted by these undisplayed ribbons, I had asked in a blog post a while back, for any ideas that anyone had to display these. Some of the ideas included making a quilt, another was to frame and shadow box only the champion ones, and yet another idea was to just string them up wall to wall. I considered each idea very carefully and there were some really good ones. Then something fabulous happened. I stumbled across a white lacquered horse head on a buying trip to New York City. Here is what I came up with! The horse head sculpture display came out wonderfully and adds a great focal point to the room. I had my upholsterer build a frame that would encase the lacquered horse head in a horseshoe shape (clever, right?!!!!). The frame was then upholstered in a green leopard print (clever twice, right?!!!!). Next , my sweet husband spent an entire weekend attaching string to the frame. The ribbons come with a clip on the back, so we just lined them up along the string. Collections help us hold on to precious memories. Each of those ribbons represents an accomplishment and I am so glad she is constantly reminded of how proud we are of her! What do you think?
